Really 4.5 stars. First of all, this is a YA fantasy (which I believe is standalone) with no romance and a disabled main character! How often do you see that? Answer: almost never in the YA fantasy genre. What a breath of fresh air.

Though this book doesn't get into deep world building, there's enough here to understand what's going on. Revna and Linne are the two narrators, assigned to a female pilot group based off real female pilots from Russia in WWII. We get a small snippet of their training and how they fit into this world they've been born into.

The best part of this book was the relationship between Revna and Linne. They don't like each other, but they are forced to work together. They're both strong willed and clash, but they would do anything for each other.

Yes, the plot isn't the most exciting (except for the last like fourth of the book) but the message and the overarching theme of female power is worth it.
