cuckleberryfins 's review for:
Wintersong
by S. Jae-Jones
This was really beautifully written. S Jae Jones has a very solid voice. Its lyrical and pleasing to read.
I loved the emphasis on family over a love interest and the world building.
The descriptions of music pleased my inner violinist.
Buuuut the whole "sex changed me and made me a woman" thing was uncomfortable.
I didn't like that the Goblin King never told Liesel that she had outward beauty, just inner beauty. (People tend to get more attractive to you the greater your feelings grow, just saying.)
The plot lost all momentum halfway through and never did pick back up. The story kept going through awkward exchanges and Leisel's anger.
This book gave me hardcore second hand anxiety. It was just so awkward.
The very strong religious aspect also made me a little bit uncomfortable (but that's personal).
I'm left feeling kind of meh, sad to say.
