I read ACOTAR about 4 years ago back in my early blogging days and I haaated it. I tried going soft because I was scared that all my new book friends would hate me, but oh man I truly disliked this book. However, since getting sucked into the world of bookish TikTok, I decided to give it another try. Did I end up enjoying it more? A bit. Is it a perfect pandemic read? Totally.

Having now read the first three books, I can confirm that ACOTAR reads like an extremely long prologue for the main story, which starts in book 2. Pretty much everything from the first book is chucked out and we start fresh in ACOMAF, but the context of book 1 is definitely needed.

While I had a good time reading this — I absolutely TORE through it — thinking back I can confirm that I don't actually like any of the characters. There are a few okay ones (I really like Nesta), but for the most part they all kind of blend together. This doesn't change through the series for me, but you know what? It's still a fun read and was perfect for banishing third lockdown blues.
