The Tennis Partner was a book club pick and we had a great discussion about it. I really liked the writing, however I found the book to be exploitative overall. Verghese shares the story of a friend training to be a doctor who struggles with addiction. The friend becomes his tennis partner and they grow very close. His friend was ashamed of his addiction and I don’t think he would have appreciated having this story told without being able to consent to it. That said, I did really like the writing and I’m eager to read Verghese’s fiction.
