I loved Rani's voice in this, and I thought her rap lyrics worked really well within the story. I did like that Hawaiian and Gujarati terms are used throughout the book without being italicized or explained, and there is a glossary at the back--some teens might have trouble following? But I think this will be a really important book for the kids who get it. I also think the author's note at the ending could be important for some teens--it is a little wordy and didactic, but for kids having similar responses to trauma as Rani, it might be the first time they see an explanation written out so plainly.

I'd recommend it for fans of realistic issue books ala Sarah Dessen.
