This is a can't miss graphic memoir with wide appeal, but particularly suitable for middle school. Dan's journey from hesitant, embarrassed middle schooler to confident, adventure-seeking high schooler over the course of a summer is a joy to follow. Both text and art are engaging and capture Dan's sense of wonder and adventure as he travels through Europe with his peers. The afterward includes photos, more information on the story, and a peek into Santat's creative process. A QR code at the beginning of the book links to even more info and a Spotify playlist that I highly recommend listening to as you read the book. All in all, a vibe.
