First of all, the way this book was written is so different from any others that Meghan Quinn has done in the past. There were SIX different people’s point of view. Just wow! And it was done perfectly, even if as a reader it left me hanging, as I’m sure she planned, when we left off at one point from one character’s point of view, and then the next chapter was another character where we may have gotten to find out what happened, or maybe we got some other info that made me even more anxious to find out what happened to the character in the last chapter.

When I first started, I kind of wondered why Quinn didn’t do like she usually does, a three book series, one for each of the siblings to find their HEA in love and life. But as I read the story, I realized that it was done perfectly, because each character’s HEA in life especially required the other characters, or at least their siblings in some way. All of it was woven into a family plot with little bits that connected here and there and really needed them all to actually get together and figure things out. It went back to events from the past, as well as how each of the siblings had felt was their role in the family. The fact that the two older boys had been adopted and Palmer, the sister, was born to the parents, well that made for some very interesting and wonderful aspects of the story that were unexpected, especially some of them from Palmer’s point of view. There was the moment towards the end that led to that big climactic “darkest night” event portion of the story that was just incredible that it happened. Because I assumed that the siblings would be able to get things worked out and that scene would be the big part where they showed how they’d worked it out. Kudos to Quinn for making such a memorable part in her story like that.

But it wasn’t all just romance and drama, there were also some incredibly hilarious moments as you would expect from this author. And let me tell you, my winter-induced asthma cough was not enjoying them as much as my sense of humor was. I guess my dogs were unhappy that my laughing led to coughing fits too, lol, they even jumped out of bed at those times and gave me dirty looks. Some of my favorite moments included the green boxes in Ford’s closet that his mother mentioned to his assistant Larkin, and when we found out what was in them, oh my gosh, I’ve never heard of such a hilarious thing! Another came when Ford and Larkin were caught in his parents’ living room camping. I won’t say anymore, because you need to read it and laugh for yourself. Oh, and then at the very beginning, when Palmer “met” Dr. Beau first when she was drunk, and then for a second time the next morning. That was the best.

And of course I loved Cooper, who we got to know in the prequel, The One Night, that came out back in December. I have to say the whole cake debate and changes made for some of the funniest parts that carried throughout the story. Personally I would prefer Cooper, or even Ford’s flavor choices over Palmer’s. I guess I’m not a fancy cake person. But the way that Nora handled it, once we got a bit from her viewpoint towards the end, that was even better!

Another romantic/comedic masterpiece from Meghan Quinn with the wonderful family moments, both good and bad, that she does so wonderfully!
