I really wanted to LOVE this book the way I love Jane Eyre, but some of the inevitable changes that had to be made to update the narrative disappointed my sense of nostalgia for the Victorian novel landscape. Still, I was intrigued by the fantasy setting; watching the characters consider whether they thought Earth habitable or not, and whether they should leave their spaceship orbiting life, was a compelling conception.
