Hook, Line, and Sinker
by Tessa Bailey
Oh boy, Tessa Bailey does it again. I was SO looking forward to this sequel and I was literally counting down the days until I could get my copy. I absolutely adored Brendan and Piper, and I loved Fox and Hannah just as much. We only got to see a glimpse of Fox and Hannah's friendship in the first book, so I was really excited to see exactly where it would go. What really drew me in was their shared loved of music. I absolutely adore that this is the thing that brought them together, and it made it even better that Tessa Bailey seemed to have such good music taste (and that came through with Fox and Hannah). I was a bit worried about the entire prologue being in text message style, but it really was a great way to show how their friendship had developed in the six months Hannah had been away from Westport.
I also loved Fox's character development. I was a little worried how Tessa would take him from being a pretty boy, playboy to a dedicated, committed man to Hannah. I was thinking, "How is this going to work, while still feeling genuine and plausible?" But it truly was, and I think this had a lot to do with the fact that Hannah made sure Fox knew he was her friend first, and that she wanted way more from him than just sex. He didn't think he was capable but she showed him and that was just perfect. I really felt it was authentic and true to who these characters were fleshed out to be. And I like that their relationship was a stark contrast to Brendan and Piper's.
I really loved how Hannah went from supportive to leading lady, because Fox believed in her. He pushed her and supported her and showed her things about herself. It was just so sweet and again, such a stark contrast to Piper's story. They are unique and amazing in their own ways.
It meant so much to me too, that we got to see even small glimpses of Brendan and Piper. Obviously this series was about the sisters but since this book was Hannah's time to shine, I wasn't sure how much we would see of Brendan and Piper but it definitely made me happy to read they make their appearances, and in the best way possible.
I LOVED THE EPILOGUE. I cried and screamed with joy. To know that Fox and Hannah had two little girls was just... exactly the way I pictured it. I definitely think it was appropriate for Fox to have daughters, based on his history. I could so see him being a girl dad. And Brendan and Piper and Henry?! That was just literal perfection. To know they all got their happy ending, and they lived in the same town, close to Wesport and everyone and everything they loved while still being able to fulfill their dreams was more than I could ever ask for.
This duology was amazing and I'm so happy that I got to enjoy both books. They truly are at the top of my list now!
