TW: racism, death, some body horror, infidelity, abuse, neglect of a child, death(?) of a child, familial asstrangment, some body horror, controlling relationship.

This was sold to me as an adult fiction to read if you loved Encanto, and honestly? It fits that perfectly. Magical realism, humour, family bonds.

Despite all this I found it slow paced at times, with lots of repetition when if came to certain emotional drivers of the characters. We are repeated again and again why x character is angry at y character, or that x character still is physically attracted to y character despite his horrible nature. This just made the naritive drag for me.
