Review: “The Atlas Six” is a slow, yet powerful start to a captivating series!
I really enjoyed reading from the perspective of all six of the main characters (Parisa, Libby, Nico, Callum, Tristan, and Reina). Blake does a great job making each character unique in their own way and goes to great lengths in order to share their histories, motivations, and thoughts with the reader.
In addition, I appreciated how diverse Blake’s cast of characters are. A variety of ethnicities, races, and sexual orientations are represented in this book, giving readers more opportunities to see parts of themselves in what is written on the page.
Blake’s world-building is just as complex as her characters. Blake’s world is populated by both humans (non-magic users) and medeians (magic users). All medeians practice different types of magic, but few are powerful enough to gain access to the Alexandrian Society—“a secret society of magical academicians.”
The six protagonists are admitted into the Great Library of Alexandria for one year as part of the society’s initiation process. Once their time is up, one of them will be eliminated and the remaining five will be initiated.
When it comes to the society and its dealings, the reader is as much in the dark as the characters, adding depth to the ever-growing mystery.
The price for knowledge is high in this series and I cannot wait to see what sacrifices are made to attain it in Blake’s highly anticipated sequel “The Atlas Paradox,” due to be released in October.
