Review

This is going to be a difficult one to review, I really liked the book but the subject matter was a little scary for me.

I think at some point in their lives, most girls have had an issue with their body, whether it is weight or appearance.

I for one thought I was fat, I tried the low calorie diet (unsuccessfully) Tablets to swell up in my stomach to curb my hunger, the whole 9 yards, BUT I realised after a few months of doing this that I was unhappy and went to see my doctor.

And I lived happily ever after .........

Anyway back to the book.

Cassie and her best friend Lia have a bet, after cutting their hands and mixing blood (like we all did when we were younger) they decide that they are going to be the skinniest girls at school, BUT they take it one step further and bet against each other.

Thus taking it to absolute extremes, Lia becomes anorexic and refuses to eat, and Cassie who has to eat, becomes bulimic, subsequently leading to her death.

'she died alone in her room, she called 33 times'

Lia is then haunted by Cassie (literally) and has regular visits from her telling her how well she is doing, and how she will see her soon and that they will be together.

The book is very cleverly written with omissions of certain words and her weight (Lia's) down to the ounces.

I really enjoyed the book and it puts you into the head of a person with a real problem, you understand that it is not just a case of shaking them, and making them eat a burger.

I also think that if you are that way inclined though it could be a trigger to some, parts of the book felt like a 'how to' book.
