Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
5.0

Cath and her twin sister Wren have done everything together but now that they're going to college, Wren wants to live in different dorms and meet new people. As the girls grow apart, Cath retreats into herself and stays mainly in her room writing fanfiction for the Simon Snow series (clearly based on a Harry Potter style multi book coming of age magic story with a huge fandom). The first half of the book is set during first semester and the latter during second semester. Family drama and mental health issues, as well as the discovery that she has trouble writing for her fiction class throws Cath for a loop. There are also the feelings she starts to develop for Levi, which complicates her view of herself as the weird, less desirable twin who enjoys being alone. As per usual with Rowell's books so far, I really liked this story! As someone who reads fanfiction it was nice to see the concept of wanting to spend more time in your favorite stories (canon or not) as acceptable and worthwhile since there can be a huge stigma attached to it. Also, I was surprised over and over how much was left whenever I checked the page count--there was just so much story!
