Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup
by John Carreyrou
informative
tense
medium-paced
My first ever book about a start-up and what a ride! Everyone told me this book was stranger than fiction, and while it was very dramatic, I do think my expectations for the drama had been over-inflated by all the reviews I read. Don’t get me wrong, this is some absolutely wild shit, I have no idea how Elizabeth Holmes had the audacity, but I kept expecting another twist - but trust me, it doesn’t need one!
.
I had apparently been living under a rock when this news broke because I literally don’t remember hearing about it here? But Silicon Valley start ups aren’t exactly my area of interest. It says a lot then, that this book was able to grip me even when it got into the nitty gritty of start-up worlds and the science side of Theranos (or, to be more accurate, how the science side of Theranos *should* have worked).
.
It’s an utterly fascinating book. The money being pumped into these Silicon Valley start-ups is baffling. The way Holmes was able to wrap some of the most powerful people in the world around her little finger was mind-boggling. And the stakes are so high that you literally feel on edge while you’re reading. People’s lives were at stake, and there are some truly tragic components to this story.

I have been feeling slumpy for almost a week now, but Bad Blood was able to call me back to it all weekend, so yay for that! Thank you Nadia @the.storygraph for gifting me this one last year 😀
