This book draws on archival records at my job, but that's not why I gave it 5 stars. I gave it 5 stars for beautifully depicting heartbreak and cruelty and injustice in the state of South Carolina and the nation as a whole after WW2. A must-read for understand how Brown v. Board came about and how one blind sergeant helped start it all.
