Thanks to Book Club Favorites for the copy of this book!

Loved the plot points and thought they made for an excellent telling of a slave story. The involvement of spirits and thinking back to overheard lessons from the tutors didn’t blend quite as well into the events as I’d hoped - it didn’t seem very cohesive. Overall, I liked it and will say that Jesmyn definitely has a unique writing style.
