My Friend Dahmer by Derf Backderf
3.0

I love reading about Seriel Killers.

Weird huh? I guess I'm always intrigued by them. Creatures who love to kill. It's not for food or to survive, it's simply because it "feels" good. So when I had the chance to read My Friend Dahmer I jumped on it. I was a bit let down but overall still worth reading.

The good comes from the background of it all. To know Dahmer as a kid, a broken kid, and watching his childhood is pretty amazing. A little too scary at times but this is how it really is. The killers hide behind a kind mask. This is what My Friend Dahmer shows off so well. It's disgusting, sick, and amazing to view all at once. I also enjoyed watching the dark fall of Dahmer, and didn't seem to just jump to killer.

I didn't love the art tbh. I get it, it's very cartoony, yet dark, and yet I couldn't really get into it. A lot of characters looked the same with the exception of glasses or hair. I just wasn't feeling the overall look of it. I also thought some of the dialog is forced and sounds fake. Like kids do NOT speak like that. Which is weird on this subject because can really show how kids talk, would have gave it a more "real" feel.

Overall it's still a solid read. Really get to see a kid go to a path no one wants to go to. Could anyone have stopped it? Chances now. You are who you are. However it was nice to see some backing of childhood for a person as derange and scary as Dahmer.
