Compelling one moment and slightly dull the next, I had a bit of an up & down reading experience with Cleanness. I did appreciate the insight into what it’s like to be a gay man living in Bulgaria, and I enjoyed Greenwell’s crisp prose. I’m not sure if I’m losing my taste for meandering literary fiction or if this one was just *too* meandering in parts.
