ljthelibrarian 's review for:
Red Sister
by Mark Lawrence
I stayed up until 1am last night to finish this which is something I haven't in a long time. It's difficult to review this book without giving away important plot points but here goes.
Assassin nuns! Complex female characters! Some of them are not straight!
Abbess Glass is a more ruthless version of Dumbledore from Harry Potter. Sister Wheel is a more horrible Snape (HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE). While some of the characters in the plot can be defined as "bad", the girls at the centre of this story are not so easily sorted into good and bad. They are children forging and discarding friendships in a dangerous world (some of them forced to grow up before their time due to circumstance), while also learning to be totally badass. Nona is at the centre of our story and she is excellent - once you come to know her story you won't be able to stop rooting for her.
Shout out to Sister Kettle and Sister Apple, my OTP.
