This is my first book by Liane Moriarty and I should say that I am not excited. I bought this book after reading the blurb. It was so intriguing and fascinating. But as soon as I started reading this book, I lost interest. The characters are trapped in their head.
Cecilia thinks that her life is in an orderly manner and when she reads that forbidden secret letter, her life is not in order anymore. She takes a thing and keeps on going over them. She is over thinking, sulking over an event which she could not change. And that makes her go crazy. Honestly, I hated reading her part.
Then we have Tess whose husband fell in love with her once fat cousin. I honestly don't know why her part is even there in the book. Her part could've been ruled out without any problems. She seems to think that fat people are not desirable and her husband fell in love with her cousin only after she loses over 100 lbs. Seriously?
And the last piece of the puzzle is Rachel whose daughter has been murdered. Her part and Cecilia's part are perfectly synchronised and predictable from the very start. Rachel hates her daughter-in-law Lauren because her daughter died and couldn't enjoy all the things Lauren's having. Seriously lady? The hate is so prominent it oozes out of the page while reading. And that makes the reader cringe.
Overall, this book is one of the books which promotes fat shaming, hating women for being successful and that typical thought that the women should leave her job if something tragic happens to her child.
The only good thing about the book is writing style. The author has a good writing style which almost makes up for the predictableness and a cliched ending of the book.
