I got this book in my Owlcrate book (the edition is GORGEOUS) but I ended up being pretty let down. I read The Wicked Deep earlier this year, which was a 3-star read. I enjoyed the witchy aspect of this book, but it felt pretty slow at times and about 75% of the way through I just started skimming through it. I wasn’t a fan of the “spellbook” intervals because it didn’t really apply to the plot. At times the plot just felt repetitive and I wasn’t super into any of the characters. I saw the twist coming from the beginning so it wasn’t shocking at all. Ernshaw’s writing is really poetic (at times a little muddled) but overall it was a meh book for me.
