I really appreciate it getting this insight into Jane's mind. Reading John scalzi's blog post about this put a lot of this into perspective. He really challenged himself with this piece and it shows, which is particularly interesting given is one of his earlier pieces. Reading through Last Colony after this feels like I have a BTS view of Jane's mind and feelings which I greatly enjoy.
