Childhood best friends ➡️ secret pining ➡️ dating ➡️ breakup… mid-flight on the way to their dream vacation. In The Pairing, Casey McQuiston’s 2024 romantic comedy, bisexual exes Theo and Kit reunite four years later — when they both cash in their old vacation credit for the same European food and wine tour. France, Spain, Italy… and three very awkward weeks together.
To prove they’re totally over each other, they strike up a challenge: whoever has the most hookups on the trip wins. Nothing could possibly go wrong with that, right? Unless… of course, it does.
I adored One Last Stop and Red, White & Royal Blue, but The Pairing didn’t quite hit the same emotional mark for me. Still, it’s charming, messy, and full of delicious tension — and if you’re traveling in Europe, this is a perfect companion read.
