Playing for Keeps by Jill Shalvis
5.0

Caleb Parker is a tech billionaire. Sadie Lane is a new tattoo artist trying to build her business and maintain her budget.

They have nothing in common until a cold rainy night brings an adorable mutt into both of their lives hearts.

As they co-parent the lovable Lollipop, Sadie and Caleb find they may have much more in common then either of them could ever have hoped for.

A delightfully sweet and SEXY contemporary romance from Jill Shalvis, perfect for fans of kissing books and doggos.

What I especially adored was the portrayal of a non-toxic billionaire. Caleb came from nothing and is intent on paying it forward in all the ways, and uses his money and clout for his family and his friends. He respects prickly Sadie's space, her insistence on making her own way, and her body.

The misunderstanding that threatens this couple is completely realistic, and I appreciated Shalvis's discussion of mental health issues, recovery, and stigma.

Content warning for discussion of cutting, discussion of a past sexual partner fetishizing cutting, and discussion of the institutionalization of a character.
