electraa 's review for:
A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian
by Marina Lewycka
I enjoyed reading this book. I did, however, skip some tractor segments, but all in all, it was a pleasant read and would probably recommend it to some of my friends.
I would like to point out how the reviews of the Economist, New York Times that were on the cover threw me off and as a result, I was expecting to read a completely different book. A lot of the reviews were focused on how funny this book was. But funny was not the first thing I think when I think of this book. Not even second or third or fourth. You get where I am getting with this It was really sad to read actually. Especially the marital abuse parts. So my 3-star rating might have been affected by my expectations not being met which is sad because I tend to successfully avoid spoilers of any kind, but it is kind of hard to do that when they are on the cover.
I would read more of Marina's books and try not to take into account reviews on the cover anymore. At least not for this author.
