The Slow Road to Tehran

In general, I liked this memoir. I did wonder some practicalities like how a woman who hadn't biked any significant distances before minus one long race, biked hundreds of miles a day repeatedly, but that is neither here nor there. I enjoyed the history backstories and loved most of the stories from the people in the countries she visited.
What I could have done without, was her constant descriptions of derelict housing where she stayed, as well as in the beginning her almost ceaseless mentions of alcohol. Like that first night camping when she realized she had forgotten her gin? Surely spending that night sober was not the worst thing to have happened.
