This is such a charming, cute, whimsical story. The weather magic is fun and imaginative, the setting is quirky, there are great characters, and the cloud-cat Nim is simply adorable.

One of the biggest joys of the book is the illustrations, which are numerous and lovely. It's particularly nice to know that the book is illustrated by the author, so we're really getting to see her own vision of how all the characters look. I also love that even the standard edition of the book has sprayed edges.

I love that the text describes the main character, Ray, as loving books but having difficulty reading because "the letters on the page got a bit jumbled and jumped about". So many kids with dyslexia or other reading difficulties will appreciate seeing themselves in Ray!

If I have one criticism of the book it's that the main villain of the story is defeated a bit too easily - but this is a kids book so I don't think it's a big issue.

The way the book ends makes it clear that there is much more to come for Ray, and I for one am looking forward to reading about it.

NB I received a free copy of this book from the publisher, but my review is entirely based on my own opinions!
