The Sophomore
by Monica Murphy
So I was definitely ready for Jackson’s story. He was definitely intriguing. And while I actually am really eager for Caleb’s story after the first book, The Freshman, with what was going on in Jackson’s life, it was definitely his turn. I’d also not really felt like Ellie would for sure be who he ended up with. She kind of seemed like too much of a desperate girl from the first book, even if it was pretty much suggested they were a match. But I really liked Ellie in this book. I can honestly say that I got her, really related to her in several ways. First of course was how she ate her chips and salsa. Like me, she only dips it, doesn’t get any of the veggies actually on the chip. LOL I also liked how she didn’t feel embarrassed to still be a virgin as a freshman in college. I mean, I hate when girls are embarrassed about that. There’s nothing wrong with it. I also hate when it seems bad that girls aren’t virgins. I feel like either way is okay, it should be what that person wants, and their business.
Jackson totally ticked me off, I mean like he did to Ellie. I got all the frustration she felt with him. But I can also see his viewpoint. However, I feel like maybe we didn’t get much on his backstory, just a little tidbit once or twice in the story. I’d almost liked to maybe have a bit more about that. But it’s okay, because I still loved the story, and how he ended up realizing that Ellie was what was important to him. And oh my gosh, his songs, especially Pink! I loved that! Very risque and also sweet. I saw at the end how the author mentioned she did her best with the song lyrics, that it isn’t her strength, but I think she did a great job! Loved this! Can’t wait to see whose story we will get in The Junior!
