The Dinner
by Herman Koch
I found this book oddly entertaining. The characters are certainly weird, and there's probably not a likeable character in the whole book, but I think the correlation to Gone Girl is a far stretch. Nonetheless, I was intrigued enough to care what happened next most of the way through. It does drag on quite a bit after the main course, and goes off on tangents for no clear reason, so I cared much less after that. I feel like I wouldn't have enjoyed it if I hadn't done the audio version, but overall I was entertained. There's not really a big twist to keep you guessing or any character to really root for, so keep your expectations low if you love a good thriller or mystery. If you're in it for the amusement, the narrator of the audiobook should satisfy that, otherwise this is no epic thriller so don't be disappointed.
