Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi
5.0

Two half-sisters who will never meet have divergent destinies, both for themselves and their lineage, due to the slave trade. With a unique character and time period for each chapter, Gyasi explores the themes of family, belief, complicity, and history. A thought-provoking and timeless new classic.

My only wish is that each chapter included the specific year(s) covered, but this may be an intentional omission to make the reader hungry to know more and look it up themselves. I made extensive use of the family trees included in the first pages of the novel and look forward to creating some art while discussion with my book club.
