The Chronology of Water
by Lidia Yuknavitch
This is filthy, wonderful, and shameless. Her prose is beyond description and especially in the audio performance it is conveyed in high emotional moments in a frantic, breathless way. Though she is often blunt, her crassness is welcome as she pointedly addresses topics with an openness that is often too taboo to share publicly and she went and wrote a whole book, accusing her father of brutality and her mother of being a drunk, also calling out herself for partying too hard & sleeping around. She readily admits to the hardship of losing a baby and getting involved with a married man (who she later married) but my reaction to it all is not judgment but respect for her humanness. Can’t believe it took me this long to read Yuknavitch.
