Clown in a Cornfield
by Adam Cesare
First Re-read Update: November 11, 2020. I had to re read this book before the year was over. Loved it once again. Really want to watch some cheesy horror movies now. LOL 5/5
Review: April 11, 2020
I received an eARC copy from the author through the publisher. This is my honest review.
Release date August 25th 2020.
This has been my most anticipate book release of this year since it was announce last year. And oh man it didn't disappoint. The year is still early for it to be officially my favorite book of the year but it currently takes the spot. Throw away the labels of Adult and YA horror book. If you want a well written horror slasher for fans of horror this book is exactly what you need.
As a kid growing up in the 90's discovering 80's horror movies along with watching the currently releases of the 90's horror film this book filled a void that I didn't know I was missing now. In this book we follow Quinn Maybrook who moves with her father to the small town of Kettle Springs for a fresh start. If you know anything about horror movies new town searching for a fresh start just means mayhem.
Clown in a Cornfield brought elements of everything I loved from horror. From movies of the 80's (Halloween, Texas Chainsaw, Friday the 13th), 90's (The Faculty, Scream) to current elements of todays horror films. As I started reading the first chapter I just couldn't put it down. The novel brought me back to those days when I would sneakily rent horror movies from my local video store and celebrate in victory when I took them home to watch. This is how this book felt while I was reading it. I have come across a gem. Adam uses his knowledge of horror and writes down a great story pulling the reader into the mystery and the horrors of this small town. While also introducing a group of characters in a steady pace. He cleverly draws together not only the elements of pass horror films he also intertwines the story with issues we constantly go back and forth in todays world with the current generations. We come across character that we instantly like and character that we would like to be the first to go. The typical horror fan formulas that we all love. But we are also thrown in a loop as the story develops.
So much I would love to discuss about but I don't want to spoil. I can't wait for everyone to be able to read this awesome book. My copy is already pre-ordered and I hope you consider pre-ordering your copy also. This is one book I will for sure be re-reading.
