Atmosphere
by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Cinematic in scope, Atmosphere blew me away. Subtitled ‘a love story’ and so it is, in so many ways; romantic love, friendship, family and a passion for the stars. Joan and Vanessa meet when training to be astronauts with NASA. At this point I thought it would lose me, I can’t say space travel has ever done much for me, but I may need to revise that point of view as I’m looking at the night sky longingly and mulling over all the philosophical moments of the book. I was fully invested, desperate to read on and I loved the evolution of Joan’s character, who simultaneously grew, yet stayed true to who she was too. I loved Evelyn Hugo, but I love Atmosphere even more.
