Odyssey
by Homer
5 stars for the Odyssey, 3 for translation, so I settled on four.
I felt the translation could have been much better. I grew up listening to Mary Pope Osborne’s children’s version, so I guess I was used to more fluid language. It sounded so modern most of the time, and I only was able to admire the poetry in about three instances.
The Odyssey itself, however, was a fantastic story and a wild ride! Everyone needs to read it at least once in their life. Odysseus is a stubborn, arrogant, but brilliant hero, and tagging along with him is sure to promise some adventure in his battles with cyclopses, sirens, evil suitors, and the gods themselves.
