It reminded me of Americanah and When They Call You A Terrorist. Yaa Gyasi is a beautiful writer and she writes absolutely heartbreaking stories about the most incredible, strong characters. Gifty has experienced real trauma and she becomes a brilliant, curious woman with a huge heart and steadfast determination. Ellie and I have been sending books to each other for 2 years now, and this is my favorite so far- Thank you, Ellie for sharing this with me. A must read.
