This had the potential to be really great, a gothic depiction of the refugee crisis set partly in Italy and Belgium. It dives into xenophobia, fearmongering in the tabloids, extremism in multiple forms, and it’s absolutely heartwrenching in parts. But despite a strong start with three clear storylines, I felt like it became muddied along the way. Whole pages would go by and I wouldn’t really be following, it felt choppy and disjointed and not in a good way.
