Wow! I don't know if I've been reading too much Psych fanfiction lately, but Dex reminded me of a Shawn Spencer without the eidetic memory - a charming pretty boy who likes poking at people to see what happens. I imagine it's far more endearing to read about than it is to experience.

As a reader I am very easy to manipulate when you give me a snarky main character; many things that would have otherwise irked me fall by the wayside if I like the cut of their jibe. So really, the biggest criticism I have is how the narrative tried to portray THIRDS as some sort of saintly organization (with constant commentary about how open-minded they are re: sexual orientation, race, sex, gender, etc.) - as if a genetic mutation would suddenly disappear all other issues that have been brewing between different peoples, that they would all band together to form one big happy government-funded family. It didn't work for the X-Men, I don't think it's gonna work for all your assorted humans, kitty and doggy shifters either, brah.

Regardless, the tactical-SWAT uniform was exquisitely described and there were guns! and fights! and blood! and witty commentary in between! Better than any action movie because it happened inside my brain.

NEW THINGS I LEARNED:
⇴ Tapetum lucidum is the name of the tissue behind the retina of the eyes of many vertebrates. This tissue reflects visible light back through the retina and contributes to a superior night vision (most primates got the short end of the stick there); it's what causes the laser eyes in the photos of your otherwise adorable cats.
