Rogue Wave
by Jennifer Donnelly
As with the first book in the series, I was instantly drawn in and entertained. First of all, I happen to love mermaids, I even collect them. So that's already a big plus for this series. But the characters are so well developed and individual. There are different languages and words for things that truly show the author's creativity. I love how she included a glossary in the back too for us Terragoggs (the mer word for humans.)
The main characters, a group of six mer, are given an almost impossible task, but one that is necessary to save the merfolk and the ocean creatures at large. I like how these six merls (girls) have bonded together and truly care and look out for each other, even though some of them had never met before this all began.
The trials and challenges these merls face continues in the second volume and unfortunately for Sera, those who were thought to be family, are the ones behind the whole thing. I'm eager to see what happens next and if the merls are able to save the ocean!
