Under the Cover of Mercy
by Rebecca Connolly
I had never heard of Edith Cavell, and this was a story that's important to share. Overall, I am glad I read this book, if only to recognize that there are so many stories that don't get told of the "ordinary" heroism in war. I definitely wanted more backstory or connections so I felt like Cavell was a real person, not just a perfect sacrificial nurse; even her letters to her mom were more checklist/duty than showing any specificity in connection. (Of course, I do understand that this was based on a real person and so the author likely didn't want to speculate where there was no proof.)
