Legendary
by Stephanie Garber
“I’m starting to think this isn’t a game.”
I really enjoyed Caraval. Legendary was even better! Tella wasn’t around for much of Caraval, so it was great to get to know her and her sass. Trying to figure out the true identity of Legend gave me so many Phantom of the Opera vibes! What an ending!! Needless to say, I’m excited for Finale.
Tella was fierce, funny, and adventurous. It was nice to read about the strong and consistent bond between Scarlett and Tella. While Scarlett was in the background for much of this novel, she remains a hugely motivating factor for Tella. However, Tella’s main goal in this novel is to find and rescue her mother, something Scarlett feels conflicted about.
To succeed, Tella needs to pay the price for her previous Caraval adventure. When her mysterious friend comes to collect, Tella doesn’t have the answers he needs. Tella is given a new ultimatum and the length of Caraval to unveil the true identity of Legend. As Caraval continues, Tella realizes that the high stakes in the game are more than they seem. Sounds vague, but you should definitely read the book and uncover more for yourself. :)
New characters that I love include: Dante and Jacks. Dante was introduced in Caraval, but we learn a lot more about him in Legendary. And we meet Jacks. Oh, Jacks. What a villain. Twisted, cruel, and utterly without shame. Jacks and Tella were incredibly fun to watch as they attempted to outwit each other (and Legend) in a furious race to the end of Caraval. So. Good.
This book was delightful, hard to put down, and I can’t wait for the finale!

Also, Elantine “I’m sure there’s a law that says you can’t mock your empress to her face” was a gem. I loved how she was two steps ahead of a certain villain. This book was delightful, hard to put down, and I can’t wait for the finale!
