Something about Jackaby books makes it so easy to suspend disbelief; it’s one of the few series that consistently gives me delightful literary chills as the plot builds. Abigail Rook is admittedly not the most compelling narrator in her own right, but as the Watson to Jackaby’s Holmes (just with more contribution to the progression of the investigation) she’s likable and relatable enough, a great bridge between the reader and the story.
