Probably my fave Kleypas to date. Having read the Wallflowers I was pleasantly surprised by how much more plot there was in this book vs just houseparty shenanigans and rich people doing rich people stuff. I felt so deeply for Amelia, trying to hold everyone and everything together and getting zero help from her awful brother (yes I know he is grieving but OMG, cannot believe he had me siding with MARCUS on his absolutely abhorrent behavior). I was really excited for Cam as a hero after meeting him in Devil in Winter and I was not disappointed. Who can say no to a “bad boy” with an earring and a magical horse tattoo??? Of the Kleypas heroes I also found Cam to be extremely into consent which for Kleypas really shows some (VERY NEEDED) evolution. Don’t worry, old school adherents, he’s still extremely competent and very masculine.
