Someone Knows by Lisa Scottoline

My aunt lent me this book and it’s been on my bookshelf for a whiiiiile. I’m #BravingMyBacklist and I was craving a thriller/mystery after reading Heavy. This book ended up being a good fit!

Allie Garvey is heading home to the funeral of a high school friend when she realizes she will see two people who she shares an unbearable secret with. The secret makes her self destructive and grief-stricken. She’s ready to come clean, but the others are ready to shut her up to keep their secret.

This book flashes back from present day to the 1990s/2000s (when Allie and her friends were in high school). I loved that the book took place in Chester County, PA and referenced so many “local” things like Wawa, the NJ turnpike and the Pine Barrens.

The mystery became predictable as more characters were introduced and (without giving spoilers) I felt one of Allie’s friend’s actions didn’t line up with his character development in the story.

Overall, I would recommend this book if you need a pallet cleanser after a dense, difficult read. This isn’t the best thriller I’ve ever read, but I still really enjoyed it.
