My Plain Jane by Brodi Ashton, Cynthia Hand, Jodi Meadows
4.0

3.5 stars . I went into this not knowing anything. I hadn't read the first book, which you don't have to do. I was seeing it everywhere and a lot of talk about this one. I came across it on Edelweiss and was lucky enough to have the publisher send me an eARC of this book. Thank you, HarperCollins!

This book takes some of the elements from Jane Eyre and turns it into a ghost mystery adventure. Jane turns out to be a really important person, since she is a Seer, that can see ghosts.

This was a quick, light, fun read. I didn't attach to the characters too much. I think if any of them, it would have been Charlotte (Bronte). She was funny and always questioning everything. I also liked Helen, who was a ghost. She added some great comedic relief and very plainly the most level headed at times, which was ironic in a way.

I haven't read Jane Eyre (I know!) but I didn't feel lost at all. I have seen a couple versions of the movie, so I know the gist of the story.

I did like the little twits and turns from the original story and how they implemented it into this world. There were some quirky parts. I liked the nod to "my precious" and "You killed my father, now you must die." Anyone notice those?! Overall, a fun and light read!
