I’m currently in my fantasy era, and was PUMPED to start a vampire slayer / romance book.. Sharina Harris writes an incredible cast of Black characters and sets up the magic system much like Legendborn - sourced in the darkness of generational trauma. There’s lots of action in this book, especially in the last 20%, which sets us up for the next book in the series. While some of the plot was easy to predict, it was really entertaining to watch it play out. However, the structure of the book was a bit chaotic - it went back and forth between YA and NA, had inconsistent world / magic system building, and many scenes and plot points very similar to Harry Potter.
