+ Eight thousand nerves in the clitoris and still not as sensitive as a white man not getting his way. +
Contemporary romance, it’s a genre I like to toe dip into and cleanse my palate with every once and awhile. It’s also a genre I struggle with and I’m often let down because of the predictability and the over saturation of a lot of the same.
Bright cartoon covers. Titles that all sound pretty similar. Small towns. Scorned woman with little to no confidence. Golden retriever men. Baby goats.
I mean tell me you didn’t just think of over 10 books that fit the above description.
I’m going to tell you, Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez hits all the above boxes, BUT….. I absolutely loved it.
When I tell you I loved it, I mean it. I was smiling like a goon walking to get my morning coffee listening to the audiobook (shout to the audio queen Julia Whelan) my cheeks were hurting because I was smiling so much. This book made me laugh out loud, made me smile, and every once and awhile cringe and roll my eyes.
Are there classic contemporary romance boobytraps? Yes. You’re getting a third act breakup, and that’s not a spoiler because can you even write one nowadays without it ?!
I did struggle with our FMC, Alexis, she does read as if she’s younger but she’s aged to 37. Yes I know we can talk about the lifestyle and the previous lovers, but she still sounds like she’s 22. I understand her character is relatable in that way, I personally just prefer FMCs to be ball busters.
DANIEL THOUGH, Yes sign me up. Can I order that on Amazon? He is the absolute perfect golden retriever book boyfriend and an absolute treasure. The book community must protect that character at all costs.
I’ll a little wary to try some of Abby’s other books because this was such a hit for me, I don’t know if she can match it, along with her rules/guidelines of how she is meant to be tagged in reviews makes me raise my eyebrow.
With that being said, when another Abby book lands in my lap, I’ll probably crack it open and dive in hoping to relive the joy I had with Part Of Your World.
