Little Black Lies by Sandra Block
5.0

Sandra Block gives us an intriguing and very knowledgeable look into the psychiatric ward of a Buffalo hospital through the eyes of psychiatry resident Dr. Zoe Goldman. Zoe’s adoptive mother is in the early stages of dementia and before she loses all touch with reality Zoe wants to learn more about her birth mother – a subject that her adoptive parents never really wanted to discuss. The arrival of a new patient, who killed her own mother, 20 years earlier, seems to be the catalyst for Zoe’s determined quest and for her to once again have nightmares about the night her mother died. Little Black Lies is an interesting plunge into the dynamics of the mentally ill, the dark side of memory and the twisted angles of madness. The surprise ending just punctuated an already good story.
