For all of my fellow theater kids interested in reading this book: They were NOT kidding when they said the book is vastly different from the musical adaptation. Outside of the character name and maybe 2 general plot lines, the story is a whole different world.
With that being said, I did enjoy reading it for the story that it is. It gave me a new insight into Elphaba’s story, and felt like I was experiencing her story for the very first time. I did struggle focus-wise with a couple of sections, especially at the beginning before the story moves to Shiz, but otherwise, it was a great read.

Graphic: Sexual content
Moderate: Animal cruelty, Animal death, Child death, Gore, Murder, Classism
Minor: Death, Death of parent
Sexual content: There are a couple of sections that get very graphic, particularly in the speakeasy where a group of character watch a tease show and a secondary character gets heavily involved in intense sexual acts with a Tiger and woman. . The book has some lesser explicit content throughout and is not suited for children/early teens.
