Holy cow were these two frustrating. Wow. It did not have to be this hard. Do people really act like this in real life? How exhausting.

Aside from the annoying miscommunication trope and incredibly sloooooow burn with no real payoff, the story was good. I loved how Yarros incorporated the military and the recent extraction from Afghanistan. It gave a unique perspective into a situation that many of us heard about but felt distant from. This story made the military, war, and being deployed feel real for me. Yarros is great at developing her characters, making you care for not only the MMC and MFC but the supporting ones as well. I am giving this four stars because I was in it for the long haul just to find out if they got out of country safely.
