The Dry by Jane Harper
5.0

This is such a great book! I though it was a stand-alone, but reviewing it, I just saw that Goodreads mark it has Aaron Flak #1, so we probably will see more of this men. This is a good thing because he was a very interesting main character, deep, and avoiding marvelously all the clichés. The story will grip you to your chair, not that it's really fast paced, but there is always something new, something happening, no time-out in this one. I really loved those crime/thriller about little village where everyone has secrets, and some knows bit of some and... and Jane Harper masters that genre at a very high level for a first novel. There is also the drought and Australia, those two are mostly characters, there are so present and really bring something to the story. Sometimes an author place the story in a city, and it's okay because it have to be somewhere, but it could have been anywhere and it won't have change a thing, this is not the case here, the environment is very important and present in the story. Last point, I enjoy it when an author add random, but interesting facts, about a place, science, or anything, so you can learn stuff even if you read fiction, and in this book , I learn that Australia have a very big problems of rabbits populations, but a very big problems. Didn't know that. So I think you saw it coming a big big discovery here, a book I recommend without any doubt and an author I will follow closely!!
